Bee Haven Home Vintage Watchman’s Clock

6

Since we’re fans of steampunk, we were thrilled to get our hands on this Bee Haven Home Vintage Watchman’s Clock. This is a wonderful vintage Watchman’s clock from the 1950s and possesses great steampunk style, having become an integral part of industrial history.

Basically, watchmen clocks were telltale clocks where a single clock contained the apparatus for recording several visiting station times. This particular one was worn by the night guard/watchman in prisons and factories. They’d have keys located at different stations throughout the factory. Hence, inserting the key would record the location and time, serving as proof that he’d not taken a nap but made his rounds!

This metal clock was made by Lanthem in Atlanta, Georgia, and sits in a grand leather case. Despite the leather shoulder strap being missing, the clock is in good vintage condition, so it made for a wonderful decorative piece in our sunroom.

Pros

  • This is a very unique vintage clock from the 1950s.
  • For a vintage piece, it’s rare and in good condition.
  • It’s a part of the industrial steampunk history.

Cons

  • It’s not a working clock.

The Cozy Bungalow Shop Antique Ingraham Hand Painted Wood Clock

5

We’re venturing into slightly antique territory with The Cozy Bungalow Shop Antique Ingraham Hand Painted Wood Clock. Dating back to the 19th century, this breathtaking antique wooden clock has aged beautifully and has a few lovely worn bits but still retains its original integrity. This clock features Roman Numerals on a circular display, with the clock’s face itself being square in shape. What’s more, we could still see the delicate forest green and coral handpainted floral motifs in the corners. Since our kitchen has cottage and farmhouse decor, it went perfectly there.

But that’s not all. The interesting bit is that there’s something handwritten at the bottom lower right. It’s written by pencil in very old cursive back in the 1800s and reads something like “Leyman Ingraham, June 26, 1881, Lake, NY.” How mysterious!

Pros

  • The clock is in a strikingly beautiful condition.
  • Despite some age-related wear, there are no breaks or cracks.
  • It’s a very, very rare find.

Cons

  • Technically, it’s antique and not vintage, but that’s just a technicality.

Artein Design Antique Swedish Gold Kartel Wall Clock

4

What’s a list of vintage clocks without something ostentatious and grandiose? Behold the Artein Design Antique Swedish Gold Kartel Wall Clock, a Gustavian-style clock based on French signs from the Rococo period (1740-1770). The clock itself dates back to the 1950s/60s and comes from Sweden. We loved every beautifully carved detail of the clock, right from the golden hardwood chest to the pendulum hidden behind the intricate columns. Besides the gilding and carvings being in excellent condition, even the enamel domed dial is in great condition, sitting behind a spherical glass and featuring pierced golden hands. The mechanism is for 7-8 days and works properly, with only the beat needing adjusting. The best bit? The clock comes with two equally intricate and matching wall sconces! That’s why it’s one of the best Etsy vintage wall clocks.

“Imagine looking for a unique vintage wall clock and finding old-time sconces also with them – we absolutely loved it!”

Dizzzi

Pros

  • The clock is made from hardwood and is in excellent visual condition.
  • The wall sconces have electrical cables.
  • It’s one of the grandest clocks we’ve ever seen.

Cons

  • Even though it works, the mechanism could get funky at times.

Delightfully Dutch Vintage Sankyo Digital Roll Clock

3

Here’s what is the only digital vintage clock on this list – the Delightfully Dutch Vintage Sankyo Digital Roll Clock. We took a trip back to the 1970s with this Sankyo Model 412 roll clock, which was made in Japan by the Seiki Manufacturing Company. It came with a backlight and digital alarm and was in good working condition. When it’s in operation, the clock emits a motor-turning sound. What we loved was that despite having an orange color, the backlight has a very subtle brightness, even though it’s on all the time. Finally, the clock was shipped to us super-fast, and we couldn’t be happier.

Pros

  • The clock has very little surface wear.
  • The backlight is subtle, even though it’s always on.
  • It’s been tested for accuracy.

Cons

  • The numbers are hard to make out at night.

Vintage By Tiffinie Persian Marquetry Micro Mosaic Wall Clock

2

The Vintage By Tiffinie Persian Marquetry Micro Mosaic Wall Clock is a square-shaped vintage clock with a solid wooden back and a scalloped frame. We loved the handcrafted details of this clock, which featured inlay patterns with thin sticks of camel bones, brass, rosewood, orange Ziziphus wood, and teak. What’s more, the clock face was made from bone inlay with a maltase cross design and a rich, burgundy-red colored inlay. Rounding things up, literally, were the number markers with metal clock hands and the glass cover with wood numbers.

Pros

  • The vintage clock is in very good condition despite its age.

How To Choose The Best Vintage Clocks?

Size and Style

If you’re looking at an Etsy vintage alarm clock, then all you need to do is see how much space you have on your mantle. For wall clocks, take measurements of the wall where you plan to hang them to ensure that the fit is right. Additionally, we took into consideration the designs that would look best with our home decor. This is especially true since there are many kinds of wall clocks to choose from, from classic and industrial to rustic.

Here’s a bit more inspiration – check out the best Etsy dining room wall decor.

Room décor

Of course, the next thing we looked at was room decor, as vintage wall clocks look good not only on aesthetically done/traditional walls but also on modern walls. The main thing here was to choose a vintage clock that fit the aesthetic and style of our room and to hang it in such a way that it complemented the wall.

Material

Classic wall clocks come in different materials like wood, metal, glass, and plastic. Choose a material that goes well with your decor and is long-lasting enough to last.

Functionality and Maintenance

Another thing we needed to decide was whether we needed clocks with pendulums, chimes, or silent mechanisms. In fact, some clocks even had barometers and thermometers.

Finally, we come to the material and maintenance of vintage wall clocks. Classic wall clocks come in different materials like plastic, glass, metal, and wood. What’s more, some require regular maintenance and upkeep, like wiping down the surface and oiling the mechanism. Thus, ensure that you check all these before making a purchase.
