Dehumidifiers have many uses rather than getting rid of moisture and decreasing humidity in the place. This is what we discovered after trying the top dehumidifiers at Best Buy. This simple device can prevent mold, especially in closed and poorly vented places like basements. In addition, we used these dehumidifiers to dry out our clothes instead of using electric driers. Dehumidifiers are a worthy investment, we would always keep one at home and another one in the basement. In our review, we found many options and we learned the important features to look for when buying a new dehumidifier for a home. Emerson Quiet Kool
The Emerson Quiet Kool smart dehumidifier doesn’t only work to remove moisture from the room but it cools it as well because it doubles as an air conditioner and a dehumidifier at the same time. This saves us money as we got one product only instead of two. Further, we could integrate it with our smart home system to control everything with the voice assistant. If you don’t have this system, no worries, there is a remote control with the product.
“The air conditioning feature is exclusive to this dehumidifier only. It saved us a lot of money, plus, it performs the best.”Dizzzi
What we could do with this remote is control the fan speed either to one of the three speeds or the auto mode. Even in the lowest mode, it cooled the room in no time. After a couple of days, we got used to this dehumidifier and knew how long we needed it to operate to completely remove the moisture from the room. So, we used the timer feature to set it for a specific time. Also, we didn’t have to remove water from the tank every now and then. Being an air conditioner, it evaporates water.
- It’s a smart device with a voice assistant feature
- It has a timer feature
- The device isn’t very noisy
- We took time to set up the smart software
If you have a large home, maybe a townhouse, villa, or just a large basement, the Frigidaire Dehumidifier is one of the best dehumidifiers at Best Buy to get. Also, we recommend getting the option with a pump to get rid of water automatically without having to empty the tank every now and then. It’s a bit higher in price but we didn’t think it was worth it until we tried both options and discovered how important an external drainage hose is especially for large homes. If you live in one, you might be interested in these best surveillance cameras for homes.
We didn’t get that dehumidifier just for the space. It has other good features as the washable filter. Just like the air conditioners, we get the filter out and clean it easily from dust and other debris. This increases the lifespan of the dehumidifier, so, we pay once and have it working properly for years. The only thing we can complain about here is the noise it produces but it’s justified given the performance we get at the end.
- We could control the amount of humidity in the space
- There is an option with a continuous drain feature
- The filter is easily removed and cleaned
- It’s a bit noisy
Honeywell Energy Star Smart Dehumidifier
Best Technology. As the name suggests, the Honeywell Energy Star Smart Dehumidifier is a smart device that works with the latest technologies to make everything easy. The first thing we did when receiving it was install the App. Using the App, we could operate the dehumidifier, set the timer, and even set the power level. All of these features and the price are the same as other dehumidifiers with no smart features at all. So, it’s a great bargain we have made.
We used the dehumidifier in the master bedroom with the bathroom door open. It’s large enough to remove excess moisture from the room and bathroom as well. We didn’t have to worry about waking up at night to shut it off because there is a sleep mode where there are no disturbing LED indicators and the timer can be set to whatever number of hours we want. Again, all of this can be controlled using the App!
- The dehumidifier is so smart
- There are different sizes of the dehumidifier
- It’s a good value for money
- There is no continuous drainage option
SPT SD Mini Dehumidifier
The SPT SD Mini Dehumidifier is a little device we use in an RV. It has a 350ml tank which is enough for an RV. The tank was filled in one day but this didn’t bother us because it’s so easy to empty the tank and reinstall it again. This unit is so small that we can even take it with us while traveling. It’s lightweight too, thus, very easy to pack.
As for the features, the unit automatically shuts off when the tank is full. This way, it doesn’t drain water and we are notified that it’s time to empty the tank. There is a light indicator as well which automatically switches off when we remove the tank too. Small as it is, the met our needs and did what it was supposed to do. Just use it for the indicated space it can cover and you’ll feel its power.
- The product is compact and lightweight
- There is a full tank light indicator
- It automatically shuts off when the tank is full
- It gets hot after working for long hours
One of the common brands in home appliances is Whirlpool, we tried several appliances from this brand before, so, we were encouraged to try the Whirlpool Dehumidifier. It’s a 50-pints dehumidifier, so, we used it in the largest space in our home and it worked as expected. The dehumidifier removed bad odors and moisture. In a couple of hours, our home was refreshed and there were no signs of excess moisture at all. One feature that is worth mentioning here is the child lock option. We actually didn’t need to use it but we think it’ll be useful for those having children.
There are some settings and features we appreciate having in this dehumidifier. For example, the continuous drainage option for using the dehumidifier all day. Also, the two fan speeds are good to have to change between them according to the space and ventilation of the room. The last thing we were pleased with was the quiet operation that we didn’t even notice it was working.
- There is a child lock option
- The dehumidifier can drain continuously using a long hose
- It’s very easy to use
- The dehumidifier continues working for a whole after turning it off
Best mini design. The SPT SD-300ML is a stylish and compact dehumidifier we used for a bathroom and a small bedroom. It kept both dry and enhanced the area ventilation in both rooms. In addition, it looks like a piece of decor, so, we could place it on a TV unit to complement the room design. It doesn’t take up much space even in our small bathroom, however, its performance was great.
The tank took a couple of days to get filled when we placed the dehumidifier in a medium-sized room. There is a light indicator that tells when the tank is full but actually, it wasn’t very accurate. We had to check the tank every now and then. Once it’s full, we could easily take it off, empty it, and place it back in no time. One last thing we want to highlight here is that the dehumidifier works quietly which is perfect for a bedroom.
- It’s easy to remove the water tank and place it back
- The dehumidifier is compact
- It looks modern and stylish
- The light indicator isn’t very accurate
Keystone Energy Star Dehumidifier
The Keystone Energy Star Dehumidifier is available in three sizes; 22, 35, and 50 pints. We tried the medium size for a space of 3000 sq. ft. It was just the right size for the space. Plus, the price was value for money, it’s one of the cheapest dehumidifiers at Best Buy considering the size. Furthermore, after operating the dehumidifier for a couple of minutes, we were happy that it didn’t produce too much noise.
Similar to all dehumidifiers, we had to remove the tank and empty it. This process wasn’t the easiest but we found the solution! There is an option with a drainage hose, so, we don’t have to empty the tank every couple of hours. We still need to get the bucket off to clean it but not several times a day as we did with the option with no pump hose.
- The dehumidifier is quiet
- The controls are very easy to use
- There are different sizes of the dehumidifier
- The tank is a bit difficult to get back in its place
BARSKA Safe Moisture Absorber Dehumidifier
Apart from home dehumidifiers, we wanted something for our car. We found the BARSKA Safe Moisture Absorber Dehumidifier, which was the best tiny dehumidifier we have ever tried. This dehumidifier is very straightforward, all we have to do is place it in the car and that’s it. We used it inside the closet as well where we place winter clothes while we’re in summer. This is a very good idea to preserve the clothes during the off-season.
The dehumidifier doesn’t have any controls, just an indicator to tell us if it’s full and needs evaporating the moisture. To do this, we had to microwave it for a couple of minutes. If you don’t have a microwave, don’t miss our list of the best over-the-range microwaves at Best Buy. This dehumidifier doesn’t consume electricity which is another big plus. We could also use it in an RV but with good ventilation because it’s pretty small. The uses of this dehumidifier are so many, that we’re still working on discovering them all.
- It’s very compact and small
- It has an indicator to tell if it’s full of moist
- There is a pack of two dehumidifiers at a better price
- There aren’t any control options or features
Best for small spaces. The Crane Dehumidifier is another small dehumidifier for small spaces up to 300 sq. ft. We used it in a bathroom that wasn’t very well-ventilated. It refreshed the air perfectly and it looked nice in the bathroom as well. For such a small space, no need to leave the dehumidifier working all day. Thus, we used the automatic shut-off feature to shut off the device after four hours. This was enough to dry out the air in our small bathroom.
To get the best performance from this dehumidifier, we recommend using it for small spaces only. It might seem a bit slow in removing moisture but this happens in medium or large spaces. For example, when we placed it in a larger bedroom, the tank took all day to get filled. To see how this works, check out this video from Crane USA which also gives you an idea about how compact this appliance is.
- The dehumidifier is compact and small
- It looks modern
- It’s easy to remove the tank and clean it
- It’s a bit slow in removing moisture
GE Energy Star Portable Dehumidifier
The GE Energy Star Portable Dehumidifier is our choice for modern homes, garages, or even a large basement. This dehumidifier looks so modern and it’s technologically advanced as well. This grey color adds a lot to the aesthetics of the design. We placed it in our living room as it matched the light grey walls there. On a side note, if you’re interested in decorating your home, check out this list of our favorite Etsy Modern Wall Arts.
Back to our dehumidifier, we could connect it to the WiFi network to use the voice assistant feature. Furthermore, we used the smart dry feature for the laundry room. It could be easily moved from the living room to the laundry room using the hidden roll wheels. We would always go for those portable designs as we don’t have to buy a dehumidifier for each room. Just move it around wherever we stay.
- There is an available option for the product with WiFi
- It’s very easy to use and set up
- The device is portable and lightweight
- The off-timer can be set for two or four hours only
Best sustainable. We know that electronic devices such as dehumidifiers and air conditioners aren’t so environmentally friendly, but we also know that there are a couple of options that have the least harmful effects on the environment. The Danby DDR020BJWDB-ME is one of those products with reduced carbon emissions and reduced electricity consumption. Thus, it’s the most environment-friendly dehumidifier we have tried.
Before you think of it, this doesn’t mean any degrading in the performance. We ourselves thought of this but it was completely the opposite thing. The dehumidifier was placed in a small room and adjusted to the second-speed fan. In less than an hour, we could feel the difference and the tank began to get filled up. We watched this video from Sylvane – Air Quality Experts before trying this dehumidifier. All the features discussed in the video are exactly as shown, so, watch it before you buy.
- It’s environment-friendly
- The dehumidifier has a timer
- It’s compact and portable
- The fan is a bit noisy
Best for large spaces. Honeywell TP70AWKN is another model from this company that proves they know how to manufacture dehumidifiers. We purchased the large size, 70 pints, for a medium basement to see the performance. Our basement is something near 4000 sq. So, an extremely powerful dehumidifier is needed. Luckily, we found this guy that performed just as we needed.
The dehumidifier is easy to control using the control panel on the top side of the machine. We could figure out how to use different control features with no need to get back to the user guide. Further, it doesn’t produce too much noise. Well, it isn’t silent but we don’t think this is an option in dehumidifiers. The only issue we faced with this dehumidifier was the short drainage hose, but we could get an extension hose to solve the problem. For more features, check out the official Honeywell store here.
- Controlling the dehumidifier is easy
- It has a washable filter
- It’s suitable for large areas
- The drainage hose is short
Insignia NS-DH50WH9 Portable Dehumidifier
The Insignia NS-DH50WH9 Portable Dehumidifier is our favorite model so far for different reasons. First of all, the controls are very easy to use. We didn’t have to get back to the user manual to install and operate this device. The LED screen on the front side of the machine helped us to operate it and know what features we were using. Moreover, the drainage tube is a must-have because we don’t have to stop the device to get rid of the accumulated water, we can simply drain water to a separate basket.
Next, the timer feature allows us to control the usage of this device and by extension, control our energy consumption. Anyway, the product is Energy Star-rated which means less electricity consumption. If you’re wondering where we used this dehumidifier, we would tell you that it’s perfect for a large basement. It did freshen the air and we felt the difference in a couple of minutes. Highly recommended for large spaces.
- The dehumidifier doesn’t consume too much electricity
- It’s suitable for large and poorly vented places
- It’s very easy to install and setup
- It could be quieter while working

How To Choose The Best Dehumidifiers at Best Buy?
This simple buying guide is basically a checklist we used to review the different humidifiers we recommend here in this list. You can use this guide if you’re still confused and don’t know which humidifier is suitable for you
Dehumidifiers are measured by pints. We mistakenly thought that pint is the capacity of the bucket where water is accumulated. But soon we discovered that pint is the volume of water the dehumidifier can remove from the air in one day. For large spaces such as basements, you need a large machine as these places are usually full of humid. Maybe a 50 or even 70-pint dehumidifier is suitable. On the other side, small spaces such as a room in your home will get well-dehumidified by a small 20-pint machine.
Some dehumidifiers come with very basic features, only a button for operating the device. Others come with extra features such as a special feature for drying the laundry. It all depends on personal needs, for us, it is always better to have more features and we also prefer easy-to-use devices. Things like wheels, remote controllers, and lit buttons are all features we consider when picking a suitable dehumidifier
Dehumidifiers should be emptied from water every now and then. Thus, a practical machine is a must where we could take off the water bucket easily and empty it then reinstall it in no time. Some products have drainage tubes which is easier and more practical. This becomes more essential if we’re going to place the dehumidifier in our homes for everyday use
How do dehumidifiers work?
Dehumidifiers work by absorbing the humid air in the place towards metal fins that causes the condensation of water vapor which is then collected in a built-in bucket
Can I sleep while the dehumidifier is working?
Yes, it’s safe to sleep in a place with a dehumidifier as it prevents mold and keeps the air clean
Do dehumidifiers consume too much electricity?
It depends on the size. Large dehumidifiers consume more electricity but in general, the consumption is average
