Feeling safe at home shouldn’t require a long contract or pushy sales calls. When we first looked into Cove, we were drawn to its simple, contract-free approach to DIY home security. Founded in 2018, Cove has steadily grown into a recognizable name by focusing on affordability, quick setup, and professional monitoring without long-term commitments. Getting started was easy, but does it guarantee real protection? In this Cove home security system review, we put it to the test to see whether its budget-friendly promise actually delivers security we can trust.

What is Cove Security?

With more than hundreds of thousands of customers across the US, Cove Security isn’t an option you’ll want to overlook. It’s often ranked among the top systems by users, earning high marks for its simplicity and affordability. Much of that praise comes from its DIY-friendly setup that’s easy to choose, easy to install, and free from long-term contracts or binding monthly commitments.

What makes Cove feel like a legit security system for us is how it blends smart tech with everyday usability. At its heart is a hub and touchscreen alarm panel that ties together sensors for doors, windows, motion, smoke, and more, and everything links back to 24/7 professional monitoring, all without drilling holes or relying solely on our Wi-Fi. We can arm or check the system from the Cove mobile app, see live video from indoor or outdoor cameras, and get alerts straight to our phone.

Ordering Our Cove Security System

Ordering Cove Security was extremely simple. We started by taking Cove’s online quiz, which asked a few quick questions about our home size, layout, and entry points, then recommended a system that made sense for our setup. If you already know what you want, you can skip the quiz entirely and build your system from scratch. Like most DIY security companies, the hub and touchscreen keypad are a must with every Cove system, but beyond that, there’s plenty of flexibility. We could choose from a wide range of door and window sensors, motion detectors, and indoor and outdoor cameras, depending on how much coverage we wanted.

Once we picked our equipment, Cove walked us through choosing a professional monitoring plan and let us name each device before checkout, which turned out to be more useful than we expected. Yes, you can name your living room camera whatever you want! Every component arrived pre-connected to the hub and clearly labeled. After payment, Cove sent both an email and a text to help us set up our online portal, where we could manage our account, pay bills, and reach support. The text updates about shipping were a nice addition, too. And after a week, our order safely arrived.

Installing Cove Security

If you don’t want to lift a finger, Cove Security does offer a professional installation option for 129 USD, but we decided to install the system ourselves. To be brutally honest, it was painless. We started by plugging in the Cove Hub and the touchscreen Alarm Panel, then followed a few simple on-screen prompts to get everything up and running. Setting a passcode took just a minute, and from there, we connected the cameras to our home Wi-Fi. That step is worth noting since Cove’s cameras rely on Wi-Fi, but the process was quick and clearly guided in the app.

Installing the sensors was about as easy as it gets. Each one comes with 3M adhesive backing, so it really was a peel-and-stick job. We tested every sensor and camera to make sure they were working properly, both on our own and with a Cove support agent on the phone, which we appreciated. We even stretched the testing period out to a full day just to be thorough. All in, the entire setup took us just over 20 minutes.

Monitoring Plans

When it comes to monitoring, Cove Security keeps things simple with just two plans: Cove Basic and Cove Plus. We appreciated not having to sort through a confusing lineup of options.

Both Cove Basic and Cove Plus come with 24/7 professional monitoring, cellular backup, and alerts via text, phone call, and the alarm panel itself. Cove Basic costs 19.99 USD per month and covers the essentials, while Cove Plus runs 29.99 USD per month and adds the extras, like smart home integrations, camera support, a lifetime warranty, and a lifetime rate lock. Both plans also include hourly automated system checks.

At 19.99 USD, Cove Basic is one of the more affordable professional monitoring plans we’ve ever seen. Even Cove Plus is reasonably priced, especially since both plans are month-to-month. They don’t require any contracts or long-term commitment.

Customer Service

We all need help sometimes, and when it comes to Cove Security, there’s no shortage of ways to get it. Cove offers a pretty wide range of customer support options, including an online help center, live chat, phone support, email, an online contact form, and even good old-fashioned mail if that’s your thing.

Our own experience with Cove’s customer service was genuinely positive. We had a few questions about the professional monitoring plans. So, true to our anti-social millennial tendencies, we used the live chat feature. The responses were quick, clear, and actually addressed our questions without trying to upsell us. That alone sets Cove apart from a lot of security companies that prioritize aggressive sales over real support.

Final Thoughts

After having a Cove home security system review firsthand, we’d confidently recommend Cove Security to anyone looking for an affordable, no-contract home security system that works day to day. Monitoring starts at 19.99 USD per month, plans are month-to-month, setup was quick, and the equipment came pre-programmed.

Yes, Cove is still a relatively young company, but based on our experience, it already feels polished and dependable. It gave us a clear picture of what was happening at home without overwhelming us with unnecessary features or hidden fees. While it may not have every advanced smart home option baked in, Cove delivers where it matters most: reliable protection, fair pricing, and flexibility.

What is the 5 USD monthly equipment credit in the Plus Plan?

The 5 USD monthly equipment credit in Cove Plus gives us 5 USD back each month to put toward paying off our equipment or future device upgrades. It’s essentially a small monthly discount that helps lower the overall cost of the system over time.

Can I use my own equipment with Cove?

No. To fully enjoy Cove Security’s features, you must use its certified sensors and devices for full compatibility. This ensures proper monitoring and performance with Cove’s system.

Where is Cove’s service available?

Cove’s home security services are available throughout the US and aren’t currently offered in Canada or other countries. Their systems and professional monitoring are designed specifically for US customers.
